Tropical Breeze Jamaican Kitchen

Text Box: Tropical Breeze. Close your eyes, and feel the whispering of the sea breeze over the white sands of the beautiful beach, bringing the sound of reggae music in the distance, island, and the smell of jerk chicken on a brazier. We are wholly Jamaican owned, we “know where we come from”, and we stay true to our roots.

Mama, in her Jamaican kitchen, would rub down the chicken with a mixture of fresh herbs and seasonings before jerking the chicken and pork, and so do we. Maybe that is why we were voted “Best Jerk Chicken” in Connecticut by Connecticut magazine for 2009. Mama used fresh coconuts to make her Rice and Peas, not canned coconut milk, and so do we. Every day, we make our meals just as she did, using fresh, natural ingredients, cooking in the old home style.

And just as in the old home style, Jamaican food takes time to prepare. Most dishes take hours to simmer just right. We will not serve food that is less than what Mama would have expected from her own kitchen. So, if we are out of a dish, we are sorry, but great things cannot be rushed. Call ahead and we will make sure to save you some! Besides Island soups and great daily specials, we always feature Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork, Oxtail, Brown Stew Chicken, Curry Chicken, and, of course, Curry Goat.

So come by, listen to some reggae, try some of our Jamaican dishes, Jamaican sodas and juices, and Jamaican desserts. We can’t supply the beach, but take your order over to West Haven’s beautiful public beaches, located less than a mile from our restaurant, and you will truly feel the rhythm. The only way to get closer to Jamaica is by boat.
